Coach of the Year
Michael Strother, Gwynn Park
The Yellow Jackets went from a 10-13 record last year to a trip to the Class 2A state title game this season. Gwynn Park (21-4) made its playoff run with a team consisting mostly of underclassmen, including two freshmen in the starting lineup. In the state final, the Yellow Jackets lost 58-53 to Fallston, the defending 3A state champion, which moved down a classification this year. Gwynn Park led the game, 42-41, entering the fourth quarter.

Player of the Year
Tyaunna Marshall, Elizabeth Seton
Marshall capped a stellar senior season by leading the Roadrunners to victories in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament and City Title game. A Georgia Tech recruit, she averaged 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals per game this season, including 30 points in the Roadrunners' 74-64 victory against St. John's (Washington, D.C.) in the WCAC final. She was at her best in the WCAC playoffs, scoring 83 points in three games. Her season high game was on Dec. 4 as she poured in 32 points against Georgetown Visitation. Marshall had 23 points and seven rebounds against H.D. Woodson (D.C.) in the City Title game.

First Team
Janay Borum, Henry A. Wise
The quick and talented senior point guard led the Pumas with 13 points and eight assists per game and helped the Upper Marlboro school capture its first County 4A League and 4A South Region titles. The Pumas also beat Largo in the county title game.

Lauren Brown, Charles H. Flowers
The senior guard helped lead a young Jaguars' team to a 15-8 record and a berth in the 4A South Region semifinals. She averaged 17.3 points, five assists and three steals per game.

Taylor Brown, Bishop McNamara
One of the top underclassmen in the county, the junior led the Mustangs with 18.7 points, 4.7 assists and 3.4 steals as McNamara advanced to the WCAC semifinals.

Ataira Franklin, Riverdale Baptist
A University of Virginia recruit, the senior forward averaged 16.2 points, eight rebounds and three steals per game, leading the Crusaders to a 16-6 record. She was named the most valuable player of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials' holiday tournament for the second time in three years.

Zairra Harris, Forestville
The Knights advanced to the 1A South Region final and enjoyed their first winning season in five years, sparked by Harris' play. The junior forward averaged 17 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Simone Sampson, Northwestern
The sophomore forward helped lead the Wildcats into the 4A South Region final, as she averaged 12.3 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots per game.

Caira Washington, Gwynn Park
One of two freshmen starters for the Class 2A state runner up Yellow Jackets, Washington averaged 14 points and 12 rebounds per game and had 20 double-doubles during the season.

Jessica Lyons, Largo
The junior guard led the Lions to a second consecutive 3A South Region title, averaging 18.5 points, five rebounds and five assists per game. She had a season-high 31 in the Lions' loss to Henry A. Wise in the county championship game.

Jeanna-Marie Wilson, Crossland
The junior was one of the county's top scorers, averaging 19 points, five rebounds and three assists per game. She had 20 points or more in 12 of the Cavaliers' last 14 games, including a season-high 34 in a 3A South Region playoff game against Thomas Stone.
