Gazette-star All-county boys' basketball team
Coach of the Year
Roderick Moore, Surrattsville
In just his second year as coach of the Hornets, Moore turned around the program's fortunes. The team went from one victory in the 2008-09 season to 17 wins this season and a trip to the 1A South Region championship game, where the Hornets lost to Baltimore's Dunbar High, 48-43. Surrattsville defeated Class 2A state runner-up Gwynn Park twice and gave Dunbar, the eventual state champion, its closest game of the playoffs.
Player of the Year
Quinn Cook, DeMatha
The junior spent the season displaying the all-around skills and court presence that earned him a spot on the U.S. National U-16 team that won the FIBA Americas title last summer. He averaged 19.4 points and 5.4 assists per game and was 47 percent from 3-point range, hitting 102 shots from behind the arc in 35 games. Five of the 3-pointers came as he matched his season high of 30 points in the Stags' victory against Gonzaga on March 8 in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference final. He had a season-high seven 3-pointers in a win against Bishop O'Connell on Jan. 20. Cook also was efficient at the free-throw line, hitting 101 of 120 (84.2 percent) for the season.

Antonio Jenifer, Potomac
Though the senior missed nearly half the season after being ruled academically ineligible, he was reinstated during the playoffs and helped lead the Wolverines to the 3A South Region final. One of the top big men in the area, the 6-foot-6 Jenifer averaged 18 points per game.
