Woman, child burned in Oxon Hill chemical attack
Police say Monday incident likely domestic-related, are looking for suspects
Police are searching for suspects after a woman and a 3-year-old girl were burned by a chemical substance thrown on them Monday evening in Oxon Hill.
Two people were taken into police custody shortly after the attack but were released after it was determined they were not the assailants, said Officer Evan Baxter, a Prince George's County Police Department spokesman.
"They aren't involved in the assault," Baxter said, adding they may have known either the victims or the attackers.
The attack occurred at approximately 7 p.m. in the 1100 block of Kennebec Street in Oxon Hill in an apartment parking lot and was believed to be domestic-related, police said. The woman and child remained hospitalized in stable condition Tuesday,. Their heads were burned by the chemical, but police did not have additional information on the severity of their burns.
The Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department is trying to determine the type of chemical used in the attack.
The fire department could not comment on the case as the criminal investigation is ongoing, said spokesman Mark Brady.
