Three killed in separate weekend incidents in county
Homicides reported in Adelphi, Forestville, Temple Hills
Police responded to the first homicide scene, a wooded area in the 2200 block of University Boulevard in Adelphi, at 7:48 p.m. Saturday, said Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George's County Police Department spokesman.
Police who were responding to a report to check on the welfare of an individual found an unconscious man in the woods who was pronounced dead on the scene. The man has not yet been identified, and no further details on the cause of his death were available, Johnson said.
A short time later, at about 8 p.m., police responded to a report of an injured person at a boarding house in the 1300 block of Eastwood Drive in Forestville. Police found Geovanny Sanchez-Alvarenga, 22, suffering from trauma to the body and he was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Johnson said. Homicide detectives believe the killing was the result of a personal dispute between the victim and an acquaintance and are working to identify the suspect and to establish a motive.
A neighbor reached by phone said two adult men and a woman and child lived in the house.
The third homicide of the weekend was reported at approximately 2:12 a.m. Sunday at a small shopping center in the 3400 block of Dallas Drive in Temple Hills. Police who responded to a report of a shooting, found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were transported to a local hospital, where Lorenzo Steven Smith Jr., 35, of the 3900 block of Dent Street in Capitol Heights was pronounced dead. The other victim, a 33-year-old man, is expected to survive his injuries.
The weekend deaths bring the number of homicides that have occurred in the county this year to 18, said police spokesman Maj. Andrew Ellis. In 2009, there were in 28 homicides in the county during the same period.
Police are searching for suspects and leads in all of the homicides. Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925.
