Player of the Year

Jabari Brown

Walkersville, Junior, Forward

Brown was simply dominant, scoring 21.2 points per game (second in the MVAL PiedmontDivision) and adding 8.3 rebounds (also second). He made 49 3-pointers and shot 76.6 percent from the free-throw line. When the Lions needed a game-changing play, they turned to Brown, and more often than not he obliged them.

Coach of the Year

Silas Cheung

Urbana, 3rd Year

Cheung guided Urbana to a MVAL Chesapeake Division co-championship and berth in the Class 3A West Region final, where the Hawks lost to Seneca Valley.

First Team

Mitchell WeedonTuscarora, Senior, Forward

Weedon was tied for third in the MVAL Chesapeake with 16.9 points per game and added 6.6 rebounds, second in the division. He made almost 60 percent of his shots.

Greg PriceUrbana, Senior, Guard

Price was integral to Urbana’s run to the region final, scoring 16.2 points per contest while pitching in with 2.5 steals (second in the Chesapeake) and 49 3-pointers. He was a 75.8-percent free-throw shooter.

Mike MullikinUrbana, Junior, Guard

Another vital cog in Urbana’s run through the 3A West, Mullikin was tops in the Chesapeake with 2.6 steals per game and added 16.6 points.

Steve CustisFrederick, Junior, Guard

Custis was everything for the Cadets, sometimes carrying them to victory with his 22.1 points per contest, best in the Piedmont. He was second in the division with 3.8 steals.

Matty FoleyTJ, Senior, Guard

Foley led the Chesapeake Division with 20.3 points per game. He was among the most reliable scorers in the area, earning a well-deserved spot on the MVAL’s All-Chesapeake First Team.

Jason SmithLiberty, Senior, Forward

Smith was a devastatingly effective player, averaging a double-double with 18.7 points and 12.1 rebounds per game—the latter of which was best in the MVAL.

Dustin MercerCentury, Senior, Guard

When Century needed a big shot, they went to Mercer, who hit 53 3-pointers this year and was third in the Chesapeake with 16.9 points per game. Dead-eye Mercer was also better than 70 percent from the line.

Danny McMahonGlenelg, Senior, Forward

The four-year starter hit a Howard County-best 54 3-pointers this year, scored more than 16 points per game down the stretch to lead his team, and went 75 percent at the line.

Bennett FoelberCentury, Senior, Forward

The Knights’ leader in almost all ways, Foelber was the focus of every top defender but still managed to score 18.7 points per game, including 47 3-pointers.
