Police: Shots fired at 8-year-old in Kensington Thursday night
Child unhurt; police use dogs, helicopter for hours in attempt to find three suspects
Police are searching for three men who they say fired shots at an 8-year-old in Kensington Thursday night.
The child, believed to be a girl, was not hurt, said Montgomery County Police spokesman Cpl. Dan Friz.
Police responded to the Kensington House Apartments at 10225 Frederick Ave. at 6:46 p.m. after an 11-year-old girl called police, Friz said. The shooters, two Hispanic men and a black man, ran after firing the shots. Police gave chase and a police dog tracked their trail to the Ken Gar neighborhood, near what police believe is one of the shooter's homes on Hampden Lane. No arrests were made.
With the aid of police dogs and a U.S. Park Police helicopter, officers searched in vain for nearly three hours for the men.
The shots appeared to have been fired from one apartment balcony to another, though Friz could not provide further details. Police said they were told the men were armed with shotguns and other guns. Police found bullet casings, confirming shots had been fired.
Friz said the shooting may have been related to a dispute between two families, but he did not have additional information.
