Roud brings international experience to St. John Properties
Real estate veteran heads development for southern counties
Andrew M. Roud is ready to break new professional ground at St. John Properties.
The Baltimore commercial real estate developer recently named the Kensington man development director for its southern division.
Roud, 45, is responsible for overseeing all land use, land development, construction, zoning, marketing and asset management functions throughout Anne Arundel, Howard, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties. That includes the company's Maryland Science and Technology Center @ Melford in Bowie, Maple Lawn Corporate Center in Fulton and Lexington Exchange in California.
St. John Properties, founded in 1971 as MIE Properties, owns and has developed more than 14 million square feet of research and development, flex, warehouse, office and retail space in Maryland, Colorado, Louisiana, Virginia and Wisconsin.
"The new position is great, in that I get to focus on land use and zoning matters and get back into the U.S. real estate market," Roud said. "I hope to bring a new set of eyes to existing projects and maybe some new ways of solving problems that I saw while in Europe."
Previously, Roud was managing director-MDG Europe for McMahon Development Group in Silver Spring. He also worked for McArthurGlen of London where he oversaw development of one of the first factory outlet centers in the Netherlands and was a project director for Opus East.
"Andrew is a seasoned and skilled real estate professional who brings international experience working with high-profile projects in the European marketplace to St. John Properties," said Jerry Wit, senior vice president of marketing for St. John Properties, in a statement.
"He fills an important role at the company of managing the comprehensive development activities at our 466-acre mixed-use Melford project in Prince George's County," Wit said.
Roud, originally from Ontario, holds a bachelor's in urban development/geography from the University of Western Ontario and is working toward a master's in real estate from the Johns Hopkins School of Real Estate.
He keeps himself busy both professionally and outside the workplace. He is president of the Holy Cross Board of Education in Garrett Park and a member of the Urban Land Institute; NAIOP, the commercial real estate association; the International Council of Shopping Centers; and the Canadian Club of Washington, D.C.
Roud, who is married and has three children, said he likes family life and boating.
"I very much enjoy spending time with my sons at my cottage on a lake in Canada, where I sail, canoe and relax," he said.
And he still takes pleasure in pursuing his native national pastime.
"Here in Maryland, I enjoy playing ice hockey with the team I have been on for the past 15 years," he said.
