Coach of the Year
Maggie Fletcher, Bowie, fourth season
In her fourth season at her alma mater, Fletcher led the boys' squad to the Prince George's County and 4A/3A Central Region titles and a 10th-place finish in the Maryland 4A/3A State Championship meet. She also guided the girls to second place in the county and region meets.
Girls Swimmer of the Year
Grace Kelly, Bishop McNamara, senior
Making her fourth appearance on the first team, Kelly won the B final of the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 56.26 seconds) and recorded the sixth-best time in that event at the Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Swim Championships. She also finished 14th in the 100 butterfly (1:00.47) at Metros with a time that would have won the county championship by five seconds.
Boys Swimmer of the Year
John Kundrat, DeMatha, senior
The senior capped his high school career by finishing fifth in the 100 free (48.18) and the 200 free (1:44.17) at Metros. He also anchored the 200 free relay team that established a new school record (1:28.57). Kundrat also swam the third leg of the 400 free relay (3:15.45) that included three underclassmen that finished fifth at Metros.
Girls First Team
Courtney Like-Mathews, Eleanor Roosevelt, sophomore
The sophomore makes her second appearance on the first time after winning county and region titles in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke and taking fourth in the back and 10th in the IM at the state meet. She also was a key component on the 200 medley and 400 free relays that went undefeated through the county and regional meets.
Callie Betman, Eleanor Roosevelt, junior
The junior won the 500 free at the 4A/3A Central Region meet and the county championships and was 10th in that event in the state meet.
Caitlin Raynor, Laurel, senior
Raynor ended her senior season by taking the 100 butterfly at the 4A/3A Central Region meet and the county championships, followed by a fourth-place finish in the state meet.
Jade Hill, Laurel, sophomore
A two-time first-team selection, the sophomore defended her county and region titles in the 100 breaststroke and finished fourth in that event in the 4A/3A state meet.
Danielle Jackson, Fairmont Heights, junior
After winning the county title in the 100 free, the junior took the 2A/1A Central Region title in the 100 breast and was second in the 100 breast in the state meet.
Amanda Barber, Bishop McNamara, junior
The junior makes her second appearance on the first team, maintaining her status as the top freestyle sprinter in the county. She was 14th in the 100 free (55.43 seconds) and 16th in the 50 free (25.34) at Metros with times that would have easily won the county public school championships in both events.
Emma Luigard, Elizabeth Seton, sophomore
The sophomore continued to drop time over the course of the season and finished by placing 23rd in the 100 breast (1:13.50) and 28th in the 100 fly (1:04.48) at Metros and anchored the 400 free relay (4:11.61).
Boys First Team
Darell Hungerford, DeMatha, senior
Arguably the fastest freestyle sprinter in the county, the senior finished 13th in the 50 free (22.62) at Metros and swam the third leg of the 200 free relay (1:28.57) that established a new school record.
Paul Trigonoplos, DeMatha, senior
One of only two Stags to reach the A finals in two individual events at Metros, the senior finished fifth in the 100 breast (1:00.05) and was eighth in the 200 IM (1:58.41). He was on the 200 medley relay (1:39.75) that finished fifth.
Steven Rigby, Bowie, freshman
One of the top freshmen swimmers in the county, Rigby won the 500 free at the 4A/3A Central Region meet, finished second in that event in the county championships and was eighth in the 4A/3A state meet. He also won the 100 back at the county and 4A/3A Central Region meets.
Lee Friedman, Eleanor Roosevelt, sophomore
Making his second appearance on the first team, the sophomore took second in the 200 free (1:53.36) and third in the 100 free (51.35) at the 4A/3A state meet. He captured the 4A/3A Central Region title in the 200 free and 100 free and was the county champ in the 200 free.
Robert Bailey, Parkdale, junior
The junior finished the season by winning the 50 free (23.72) and the 100 free (51.67) at the county championships and then sixth in both events at the 4A/3A state championships. He also won the 50 free at the 4A/3A Central Region meet.
Tyler Lynch, Bowie, senior
Among the best sprinters in the county, the senior finished second in the 50 free at both the county and 4A/3A Central Region meets. He also anchored the 400 free relay that helped the Bowie boys win the county and 4A/3A Central Region championships.
Daniel Chavez, Eleanor Roosevelt, freshman
Another of the top freshmen swimmers in the county, Chavez won the 500 freestyle at the county championships after settling for second to Rigby at the 4A/3A Central Region meet. Chavez also won the 100 fly at the county and region meets.
