Athlete of the Week Thursday, March 16, 2006 Takecia Jameson
In the final meet of the indoor track season last weekend, Jameson garnered a pair of first-place honors at the Nike Indoor National at the Wayne K. Curry Sports Complex. A junior from Eleanor Roosevelt, she ran on the Blazin’ Raiders’ winning 1,600-meter relay and 1,600 sprint medley relay squads.
Jameson was the opening leg on the 1,600 relay that clocked 3 minutes, 54.31 seconds. She along with Antoinette Arrington, Jacia Montgomery and Tasha Stanley clocked 4:05.50 in the sprint medley competition.
Jameson, whose sister, Tameka, was recently selected the Star⁄Gazette Female Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, was a part of Roosevelt’s 1,600 relay squad that won the county, South Region and state Class 4A⁄3A championships. Roosevelt currently has the country’s No. 1 time in the 1,600 relay, according to national track Web site DyeStat.com.
Honor Roll
Selena Nwude led the Eleanor Roosevelt girls’ basketball team to its second straight state 4A title with 20 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday’s championship-game victory against Gaithersburg.
DeMatha’s 1,600-meter relay team of Sean Suber, Jaumale Sykes, Geoffrey Daley and Jeremy Samuels took second (3:17.14) at the National Scholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships in New York City. The Stags placed third in the 800 relay (1:28.49) with Suber, Sykes, Samuels and Michael Cooper.
Roosevelt’s Jon Ntoko had 26 points in the two games at the state Class 4A boys’ basketball Final Four. Ntoko scored a team-high 12 points in the Raiders’ 39-38 loss to Walt Whitman in the state finals Saturday.
