Kevin Chase, chairman and founder of the Andre Gist Memorial Foundation, said he started the foundation in 2003 because he ‘‘wanted to give something back to the community, and at the same time keeping his name alive.”
Andre Gist, alumni of Oxon Hill High School, went to West Virginia University. After graduating from WVU, he went on to play for the United States Football League’s Tampa Bay Bandits.
The foundation gives scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
‘‘We assist students with their financial needs and support students who attend [Historically Black College’s and University’s],” Chase said.
A new recipient of the scholarship will be announced at the dinner.
Chase said the ‘‘very elegant evening” also includes a silent auction. Ventriloquist Willie Brown will host.
The gala will take place at the Tantallon Country Club from 7p.m to 2a.m. Tickets are $85 per person and $150 per couple.
