Dorothy Butler Horton
Dorothy Butler Horton, 82, of Landover died on Feb. 22 at Prince George's County Hospital in Cheverly.
She was born on Jan. 4, 1929 in Birmingham, Ala. and attended the Washington, D.C. School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and worked for 20 years at the Laurel Regional Hospital before retiring in 1982, according to her son, Dr. Jerome Butler of Annapolis.
Before moving to Cheverly in 1970, she worked at a hospital in Alexandria, Va.
She was married to John Butler from Alexandria from 1947 to 1953 and later married Eddie Horton of Milwaukee in 1968 to 1973. She had lived in Landover for the past 20 years and was named D.C. nurse of the year by the Volunteer Nurse Association in 1976.
She is survived by her sons, Jerome Butler and Keith Butler of Cheverly; her siblings Percy Harris of Alexandria, Va.; Bobby Harris of Columbia, Md.; and Bernice Parker of Washington, D.C. She was preceded in death by siblings Francis Massey of Hyattsville and Lawrence Harris of Birmingham, Ala.
She had three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood.
