Officers awarded for lifesaving efforts in Silver Spring
Montgomery County Police Third District officers Megan Ambrose and Matthew Johnson were awarded Lifesaving Awards, given to employees who provide essential lifesaving actions prior to the arrival of an ambulance, on March 3 at the department's annual awards ceremony.
On June 23, 2009, Ambrose and Johnson responded to an apartment complex in Silver Spring to check on a woman who had not been seen or heard from by friends and family in several days. After it was determined that the leasing office did not have a key to the apartment, Ambrose and Johnson used a ladder to climb up and onto the woman's balcony where they jimmied the lock to gain entrance to the apartment. The woman was located on her bedroom floor, unconscious, in a pool of blood from a head injury stemming from a fall. The officers stabilized the woman who faded in and out of consciousness until an ambulance arrived, saving the woman's life.
County police awarded six Lifesaving Awards and a Medal of Valor, the highest award, at the ceremony.
