Runner of the Year
William Kellogg, DeMatha: Kellogg is, perhaps, the best quarter-miler in the county if his 500-meter times are any indication. The only runner to beat Largo's Ben McKinzie in the 500 this season, Kellogg ran 1 minute, 5.14 seconds at the Private School Invitational, the third-best time in the nation, according to track Web site, Dyestat.com. Kellogg also was part of a 1,600-meter relay team that had the fastest clocking in the nation (3:19.79) this season until being surpassed last weekend.

Field Athlete of the Year
Jeff Butler, Henry A. Wise: Butler earned a triple crown in the shot put, capturing the county championship by nearly six feet. After narrowly winning the 4A East Region title, Butler won the shot put at the 4A state meet by a foot with a throw of 54 feet, 11 inches.

Coach of the Year
Anthony Brown, Suitland: After winning its last state track title in 2004, Suitland had several lean seasons, but Brown nearly guided the Rams to the state 4A title. Suitland took second behind Thomas Johnson High by just a fraction of a point. Brown's athletes won three individual state titles and one relay title with underclassmen making heavy contributions.

First Team
Saquan Johnson, Suitland: Johnson's time of 1:05.74 in the 500 at the state meet is the sixth-fastest time run in the nation this season. Johnson also won the 4A East Region 500 title and finished third at the county meet.

Garland Brooks, Charles H. Flowers: Brooks captured the county, region and state meet championships in the 800.

Ben McKinzie, Largo: McKinzie failed to finish first in the 500 just one time this season as he earned a triple crown in the event. He also earned a triple crown in the 300. His 500 time of 1:06.17 at the 3A state meet is 12th in the nation according to Dyestat, and his state-winning 300 time of 35.10 seconds is 21st in the nation.

Michael Williams, DeMatha: Williams ran the second-fastest time in the 400 in the state this season (49.27 seconds) and was a part of the Stags' nationally ranked 1,600-relay team.

Derick Rouse, Bowie: Rouse won the 4A East Region pole vault title without competition and then took third in the Class 4A state meet.

Ryan Allen, Suitland: Allen came through when it counted, winning the Class 4A state championship in the 55 after taking second in the event at the 4A East Region meet.

Cullen Mosely, Parkdale: Mosely has become a force in the boys' distance scene, winning the county and 4A East Region 1,600 along with a third-place finish at the Class 4A state meet.

Ronald Darby, Potomac: Darby just missed out on a Class 3A state 55 title with a second-place finish, but captured the 3A West and county 55 championships.

Justin Ahalt, Eleanor Roosevelt: Ahalt won the county and 4A East Region 3,200 titles and should be a force in the event come the outdoor season.

Cory Puffett, DeMatha: Although he missed much of the season, Puffett still ran the fastest 1,600 time in the county (4:24.98 at the Kentucky Invitational) this season which is also a DeMatha record.

Christopher Walker, DeMatha: Walker has one of the top 100 times in the nation in the 300, according to Dyestat and was part of the Stags nationally ranked 1,600 relay team.

Jerimiah Hendy, Bowie: Despite missing the Class 4A meet, Hendy still had a great season in the high jump including county and 4A East Region championships.

Jordan Coleman, Suitland: Another cog in the Rams' machine, Coleman gave the Rams a victory in the 300 at the Class 4A state meet.

Paul Edwards, Bowie: Edwards has a top-30 500 time nationally, according to Dyestat and was also a Class 4A state runner-up in the event to go along with a third-place finish at the 4A East Region meet.
