Patrick Pinchinat (Richard Montgomery, Sr., 55 meters)

County’s most consistent sprinter stumbled at county meet, but recovered to win regional title in blistering 6.6 seconds.

Brendan Etzel (Richard Montgomery, Jr., 300 meters)

Came on toward end of season to win regional title. Also lynchpin of Rockets’ 4x200 relay team.

Will Zahorodny (Damascus, Jr., 500 meters)

Broke through to win gold medal at regional meet in time of 1:07.13, a full second faster than closest competition.

Tyler Jackson (Richard Montgomery, Sr., high hurdles)

Saved best race for last, winning gold medal at 4A⁄3A state meet in time of 7.71 seconds.

Will Palmer (Whitman, Sr., 3,200 meters)

Won regional meet by four seconds, then hung on to win gold at states, earning Vikings’ lone boys individual medal.

Richard Montgomery 4x200 relay(Tyler Jackson, Jr.; Brian Sickles, Jr.; Jon Ryan, Sr.; Patrick Pinchinat, Sr.)

Snagged county and regional titles with times of 1:32.40 and 1:30.90. Finished fifth in state meet.

Richard Montgomery 4x400 relay(Brendan Etzel, Jr.; Anthony Pace, Sr.; Lucas Aster, Jr.; Alonzo Evans-Chase, Jr.)

Not as dominant as last year’s state gold-winning crew, but defended county and regional titles.

Won regional title by almost 18 seconds and finished second at 4A⁄3A state meet.

Jamal Currica (Damascus, Sr., High jump)

After finishing second at outdoor state meet a year ago, dominated indoors, winning county, regional and state titles.

Sean Stanley (Gaithersburg, Soph., Shot put)

Dominated competition, winning regional title and 4A⁄3A state championship with throw of 50 feet, 8.5 inches.

500 meters — Nicholas South (Paint Branch, Jr.)

1,600 meters — Elias Tousley (Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Sr.)

3,200 meters — Neal Darmody, (Quince Orchard, Sr.) and Tommy Mullings (Sherwood, Jr.)

High hurdles — Jose Lopez (Magruder, Sr.)

4x200 relay — Magruder (Lucas Comfort, Jr.; Jose Lopez, Sr.; Jude Obiarinze; Sr. Kalgeri Robinson, Sr.)

4x400 relay — Blair (Aaron Townsend, Sr.; Nilan Scnure, Jr.; Jonathan Haugton, Soph.; Louis Varella, Sr.)

4x800 relay —Walter Johnson (Jared Schnieder, Sr.; Asger Klocker, Jr.; Alexander Conant, Jr.; Chris Moen, Jr.)

High jump — Kalgeri Robinson (Magruder, Sr.)

Shot put — Chimso Okoji (Kennedy, Sr.)

Athlete of the Year

Chris Moen

(Walter Johnson, Jr.)

Competed in 100th Millrose Games in New York City, won Montgomery Invitational mile, and won state title in 1,600-meter and two county and regional titles.

Coach of the Year

Matt Wheeler

(Richard Montgomery, 6th year)

Led boys to second consecutive county and regional championships. Rockets also had best county finish at 4A⁄3A state meet, fifth.
