Reporters Notebook: Now that's a tax cut
During Tuesday's joint hearing on the budget, Del. Bill Bronrott asked House Minority Leader Tony O'Donnell whether cutting a tobacco tax increase passed in 2007 was part of the House Republican plan for cutting $829.6 million from the fiscal 2011 budget.
"The answer's no," O'Donnell said. "But let me just tell you that I have quit contributing to that revenue stream as of April 2008."
"As it was intended, apparently," Bronrott said.
"Delegate, that's only because he doesn't live next to Virginia and can run down and buy them there," said Sen. David Brinkley, not missing the chance to score political points for the GOP.
