Potato chip deliveryman shot in leg outside pharmacy
Driver recovering after morning assault by alleged robber in District Heights
A man delivering potato chips to a District Heights pharmacy was shot Thursday morning during a robbery attempt, police said.
The shooting occurred at about 10:30 a.m. outside Kay Cee Drugs at 6110 Old Silver Hill Road, police said. A potato chip delivery driver was parked next to the store and was in the back of his truck preparing to make a delivery when a man wearing a ski mask approached him with a gun, said District Heights Police Chief Michael March.
The two men were involved in some sort of physical altercation and the armed robber shot the delivery driver in the leg, March said. Police were unsure if any money or merchandise was stolen.
Police are still searching for the shooter, who they say fled on foot in the direction of Marlboro Pike Road.
The delivery driver walked out of the back of the truck and alerted a passerby he had been shot, March said. He was taken to a local hospital and two hours later, seemed to be "doing fine," March said.
Kay Cee Drugs is a 55-year-old independent pharmacy specializing in medical supplies and equipment, according to its Web site. An employee who answered the phone there Thursday morning said the store had no comment on the shooting.
