Poolesville High students win art honors
Several Poolesville High School students were recognized in the Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations' annual Reflections competition.
Five students received Awards of Excellence earlier this month in the 2008-09 Reflections arts achievement program: Sandow Sinai (in the musical composition category for "The Circus"), Aaron Bernstein (photography, "Something Fishy"), Cameron Mckail (film/video, "PHS Volleyball Wins State"), Chen Dou (visual arts, "Mother") and Hillary Templeton (dance, "Supercalifragilisticexpeailidcious").
The theme of the competition was "WOW."
There will be an awards ceremony for the county winners at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown on April 29. The students next move on to the state and national Reflections competitions.
Donate to McNair auction
The Ronald McNair Elementary School PTA in Germantown needs donations for its seventh annual auction scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. March 6 at the school, 13881 Hopkins Road.
Supporters of the school are encouraged to donate a variety of items and services that will raise money at the auction for cultural, academic, recreational and community building programs for McNair students. Examples of donated items include tickets to sporting events, theater and concerts; gift certificates; new clothes; and free services such as tutoring and home improvement projects.
Organizers of the event are also seeking someone to provide food for the evening.
Donations may be mailed to Ronald McNair PTA, c/o McNair Auction, Ronald McNair Elementary School, 13881Hopkins Road, Germantown, MD 20874. Arrangements for picking up donations may be made by calling Kelly Collins at 301-642-1268. On a quest for college info?
The Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington presents the 13th Annual CollegeQuest College Fair next month. The fair is 1:30-6 p.m. on March 15 at the center, 6125 Montrose Road, Rockville.
More than 50 college representatives and resource information booths will help guide participants through the college admissions process. The fee is $15 and $20 at the door, per family of four.
Professional counselors will conduct informative workshops and seminars on essential topics such as financial aid, the college admissions process and Jewish life on campus.

Senior citizen's prom
Dinner will be followed by dancing at a Senior Citizen's Prom hosted by Quince Orchard and Poolesville high schools, which will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on March 12 at Quince Orchard, located at 15800 Quince Orchard Road in Gaithersburg. Dine Out for QOHS
Quince Orchard High School has organized Dine Out evenings to support local businesses and drum up some community spirit. A percentage of dine-in and carry-out receipts collected on Dine Out evenings will be donated to the QOHS All-School Booster Club.
Show your support today from 5-9 p.m. at Mamma Lucia, 14921-J Shady Grove Road in Fallsgrove Village Center in Rockville or from 4 to 9 p.m. March 18 at Potomac Pizza, located in Kentlands Market Square at 625 Center Point Way.
Bernie Scholarships available
Applications for the Bernie Scholarship Awards Program, given to low-income county residents (high school seniors and adults returning to school) living in Housing Opportunities Commission, Rockville Housing Enterprises, Scotland and Edgewood Management housing, are available at www.berniescholarships.org.
Last year, 24 scholarships were awarded.
