Rockwell artwork on display at library
Sculptures made by Lois P. Rockwell Elementary School students are on display at the Damascus Library.
"Under the direction of art teacher Elaine Jones, third- and fourth-grade students from Lois P. Rockwell Elementary School have created some amazing abstract sculptures," children's librarian Amy Alapati said.
The colorful pieces of art will hang over the bookshelves in the children's section through May, she said. The Damascus Library is located at 9701 Main St.
Have breakfast with books
Lois P. Rockwell Elementary School families are invited to join students in celebrating Dr. Seuss' 106th birthday by reading at the school.
Families are invited to take their favorite books and stuffed animals to the school's all-purpose room from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Tuesday. Muffins, doughnuts and fruit will be served. Parents are asked to tell the school by Friday how many people will be attending.
Start singing at Baker
An after-school choral program is starting up at John T. Baker Middle School this semester.
Students who love music or want to have fun after school are invited to join.
The program will be lead by Kristen Scuderi, a Baker Middle School and Damascus High School alum.

Montgomery College offers Saturday Discoveries
Montgomery College will offer Saturday Discoveries classes for gifted and talented fourth- and fifth-graders March 6.
Classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. The cost is $85.

Clearspring to hold casino night
Tickets are on sale for Clearspring Elementary School's casino fundraiser, which will be held March 6 at the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Activity Center, 10211 Lewis Drive.
The evening will feature table games, a disc jockey and dancing, and raffles and prizes.

Dine out to help DHS Post Prom
The Damascus High School Post Prom is having a fundraiser at That's Amore in Rockville on March 7. The Post Prom will receive a portion of purchases 3-9 p.m., dine in or carry out.
Pizza Thursday returns to DHS
Back by popular demand, the Damascus High School Post Prom Committee has brought back "Pizza Thursday."
Pizza will be sold at $2 a slice or three slices for $5 after school every Thursday. Pizza sales will help support the Post Prom.
College to hold parent/
student night March 3
Montgomery College will hold a parent/student night 6-9 p.m. March 3 in Globe Hall, located in the High Technology and Science Center at the Germantown Campus, 20200 Observation Drive.
Information will be available on admissions, financial aid, counseling, advising and other services available to Montgomery College students. Representatives will be on hand to address assessment and placement testing, student life, student employment and disability support services.
A financial aid workshop will begin at 8:15 p.m., also in the High Technology and Science Center, to provide parents and students with useful information to help complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Clarksburg drama department seeks 1980s clothing
The Clarksburg High School drama department will present "The Wedding Singer" in April, and residents are asked to donate old dresses and formalwear they might not want any longer.
The drama department is looking for anything from the [19]80s," as well as bridesmaid, homecoming, prom or wedding dresses that you might have," faculty advisor Michelle Meyer said.
The department is also looking for old mattresses for the production.
Items will not be returned, Meyer said.

Youth art contest
accepting entries
Montgomery County students in grades six through 12 are invited to enter their artwork in the 2010 Youth Art Contest and Exhibition sponsored by the Montgomery County Federation of Women's Clubs. All forms of media, including oil, lead pencil, pastels, photography and computer art, will be accepted.
Judging will be held March 13 at Leisure World in Aspen Hill. Nine cash prizes will be awarded to the top entries and the winners' art will go on to a state competition.
