C. Grant Shaw
C. Grant Shaw, 81, of Frederick, formerly of Gaithersburg, died Feb. 18, 2011, at Kline Hospice House.
Born Sept. 5, 1929 in Superior, Wis., he was the son of the late Clarence and Marian Grant Shaw.
He was the husband of Margaret Shaw for 61 years.
Mr. Shaw served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951. Following his Army service, he worked for the U.S. Government from 1951 to 1979. He was the regional communications officer and office director for the Office of Communications at the U.S. Department of State from 1962 to 1979. He was the founder and president of OCS from 1981 to 1987 and a communications consultant from 1987 to 2002. He was also the founder and scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 1323 and a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church in Laytonsville.
Survivors in addition to his wife include four children, Cynthia White and husband, Paul, of Newark, Del., Richard Shaw and wife, Carol Shoemaker, of Laytonsville, David Shaw and wife, Emily, of Walkersville and James Shaw of Woodsboro; eight grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Keeney & Basford P.A. Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. The Rev. Stephen White will officiate. Burial will be private.
