Used car sale coming to DHS
The Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades Foundation Inc. will hold a used car sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Damascus High School, 25921 Ridge Road.
All used vehicles are Maryland inspected and most come with a 30-day, 1,000-miles warranty. Vehicle sale prices start at $1,600. A $100 deposit (check or cash) is required for each vehicle purchased: tax, tags and fees are in addition to the price of the vehicle.
A lottery for the cars will begin at 11 a.m. All proceeds from the sale are returned to the student training program.

Student art on display
at Hopkins campus
Johns Hopkins University's Montgomery County Campus will hold its fourth annual High School Student Art Exhibit, "Opposites Attract," through March 24 in the Atrium and Café Galleries at the campus, 9605 Medical Center Drive in Rockville.
One hundred Montgomery County high school students representing nine schools entered the competition.
"The talent and range of styles were incredibly impressive," said Eric Beatty, director of Homewood Arts Programs at Johns Hopkins University. "It's inspiring to see that these students value the creative process and are willing to work with such passion."
Beatty served as a judge for this year's show along with Rebecca Gordon, a Virginia-based artist and board member of Artomatic.
First place winner was Natalie Cunningham, a student at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, for "Signal in the Snow."
Second place went to Xinhong Qui of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring for "Death|Life."
Third place went to Michelle Hahn of Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring for "Two Worlds Collide."
Honorable mention awards went to Janetta Deppa, a student at the Visual Art Center at Albert Einstein High School; Jackelyn Gitlin, a student at Damascus High School, and Patrick Ngako, a student at Paint Branch High School.
Plaza Arts of Rockville donated 100 canvases to the entrants for the show.
College to hold
parent/student night March 3
Montgomery College will hold a parent/student night 6-9 p.m. March 3 in Globe Hall, located in the High Technology and Science Center at the Germantown Campus, 20200 Observation Drive.
Information will be available on admissions, financial aid, counseling, advising and other services available to Montgomery College students. Representatives will be on hand to address assessment and placement testing, student life, student employment and disability support services. Parents and students will also have opportunities to meet Montgomery College faculty members.
A financial aid workshop will begin at 8:15 p.m., also in the High Technology and Science Center, to provide parents and students with useful information to help complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Youth art contest
accepting entries
Montgomery County students in grades six through 12 are invited to enter their artwork in the 2010 Youth Art Contest and Exhibition sponsored by the Montgomery County Federation of Women's Clubs. All forms of media, including oil, lead pencil, pastels, photography and computer art, will be accepted.
Judging will be held March 13 at Leisure World in Aspen Hill. Nine cash prizes will be awarded to the top entries and the winners' art will go on to a state competition.

Parent advisory council meetings set
The next meeting of the Montgomery County Public Schools' Parent Advisory Council for the 2009-2010 school year is Feb. 24.
The council provides input on communication and parent involvement and holds parent advocacy trainings.
All meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. at the Department of Family and Community Partnerships, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville. Other meeting dates are April 12 and May 12.

Clarksburg drama department seeks 1980s clothing
The Clarksburg High School drama department will present "The Wedding Singer" in April, and residents are asked to donate old dresses and formalwear they might not want any longer.
The drama department is looking for anything from the [19]80s," as well as bridesmaid, homecoming, prom or wedding dresses that you might have," faculty advisor Michelle Meyer said.
The department is also looking for old mattresses for the production.
Items will not be returned, Meyer said.

Tickets on sale for DHS athletic booster dinner dance
Tickets are on sale for the Swarmin' Soiree, a dinner dance to raise money for the Damascus High School Athletic Booster Club.
The event will be held Feb. 27 at Montgomery Country Club in Laytonsville. In addition to dancing, it will feature a cash bar and silent auction.
