County high school sports schedule on hold
With heavy snow and more on the way it's uncertain when games will resume
A full slate of basketball games that were postponed on Friday night were to have been played Monday. But with schools closed, those games have been postponed again. A makeup date is uncertain.
On Monday morning, Prince George's Schools Athletic Supervisor O'Shay Watson said the school system is working on getting snow cleared from school parking lots. He said it was possible no games would be played until late in the week, and that the school system will decided whether schools are open on a day-by-day basis.
Basketball teams are up against a deadline of Feb. 20 to get at least 18 games played. Teams that do not play at least 18 games by that date are not eligible to receive top-four seeds for the state's regional tournaments. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association will draw the brackets for the regional tournaments on on Feb. 21, and the tournaments begin with first-round games on Feb. 26. Most teams already have played 16 or 17 games, and most likely will have three games scheduled next week.
