ICC between Gaithersburg and Olney to open Feb. 22
Tolls on first segment to open would cost $2.90 round-trip during rush hour
The first segment of the Intercounty Connector will open at 11 a.m. Feb. 22.
That portion, a 7-mile stretch of the 18.8-mile, $2.6 billion toll road that will connect Gaithersburg to Laurel, connects Interstate 370 in Gaithersburg to Route 97 in Olney.
A round-trip commute during rush hour on the first segment, of which 5.65 miles is tolled, would cost about $2.90.
The tolls for cars and light trucks are 25 cents per mile during peak hours, 20 cents per mile during off-peak hours and 10 cents per mile during overnight hours.
The first segment will have three access points: I-370/Route 355; I-370/Shady Grove and Metro access roads; and Route 97.
The ICC will be the first all-electronic toll road to operate in Maryland. Drivers must have an EZ-Pass transponder, or cameras will record their license plate numbers and drivers will be charged $3 in addition to the regular toll.

The original version of the story had the incorrect cost of a round-trip commute during rush hour on the first segment of the ICC. The listed government website was also incorrect.
