Montgomery County winter weather cancellations list
Public schools closing early today; Dept. of Recreation cancels Friday classes
Due to the winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service for this weekend:
The following county programs and services will be closed, according to a statement from Montgomery County:
Public libraries will be closed Saturday and Sunday. Materials due Friday through Feb. 10 will have their due dates extended by one week. There will be no fines charged through Feb. 10. Customers are asked not to return library materials until libraries re-open and not to leave materials on the premises.
Recreation facilities are closed Saturday and Sunday;
Community use of schools activities are cancelled Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Solid Waste Services Transfer Station is closing at 5 p.m. Friday and will be closed Saturday and Sunday.
County-operated liquor stores will be closing at 5 p.m. Friday and will be closed Saturday.
Bethesda Circulator service suspended at 9 p.m. Friday and will not operate Saturday.
Entertainment-related closings
AFI Silver will be closed Saturday, Feb. 6. and Friday night's midnight screening of "The Secret to a Happy Ending" is cancelled. AFI is planning to reopen Sunday, Feb. 7. All guests who have purchased a ticket for the midnight show on Feb. 5 or any show on Feb. 6 are entitled to full refunds or exchanges. Strathmore has announced the cancellation of the Music Center at Strathmore 5th Anniversary Celebration concert "Luck Be a Lady" on Friday at 8 p.m. The anniversary festivities, including cake and an after party are rescheduled to coincide with the Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour concert on Friday, February 19. The Gato & the Palenke Music Co. concert is postponed until Friday, April 9 at 9 p.m.
The entire Strathmore campus is closed on Saturday and Sunday. This includes all education classes and performances in the Music Center and Mansion. Washington Printmakers Gallery is postponing the opening reception for its 25th Anniversary Reunion Show, the inaugural show in WPG's new space at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, 8230 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, to Friday, Feb. 12, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
VisArts, Gibbs St., Rockville Town Center, is postponing the Friday, Feb. 5, opening for its "Points of Departure" exhibit to Tuesday, Feb. 9, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Round House Theatre in Bethesda, has canceled all weekend performances of "Permanent Collection" for Friday, Feb. 5, and Saturday, Feb. 6. Call 240-644-1100 to make exchanges. Patrons who have tickets for the Friday, Feb. 5 , performance of "Air Heart" and the Saturday, Feb. 6 performance of "Frida Vice Versa" at Round House Theatre in Silver Spring should call 240-644-1100. The 2 p.m. matinee of "Frida Vice Versa" on Sunday, Feb. 7 will be a pay-what-you-can performance.
