Clear snow from the roads better
The Lake Linganore Homeowners Association once again "dropped the ball" during Saturday's snow storm, which dropped 4-6 inches in some locations in Lake Linganore. Driving on the roads to return home was a devious feat.
The community in which I live saw two accidents, one that blocked the road for hours and sent the individuals to the hospital. Tow trucks could not get in to remove the accident and allow the road to open because of the conditions.
If we take a step back and look at the big snow we had, we find ourselves once again in the same position, luckily that time without any accidents. It was two days before our road was opened, locking us into our homes to spend some quality "family" time.
The contractors worked around the clock to keep up with the snow, and we understand that they are humans too and need rest before continuing.
However, our newly paved roads still remained horrendous. The reason I bring this up is after the association received many complaints about the roads and the way it was handled, the association sent a snippy e-mail out stating that they were doing the best they can and that they were concentrating on the main roads first before handling the smaller ones.
I have two points on this.
First, newly paved roads are dangerous because they do not hold the heat as well, nor have they been "seasoned" by the past years of salting. It's important to maintain them to keep icing at a minimum.
Second, all of the communities here in Lake Linganore have just one road in and out. What constitutes a "main" road? If you only have one way in and out, that is a main road!
If the explanation comes up that the contractor doesn't have enough staff to keep up on the roads during the snow, then the association should add another one. Heaven knows our association dues are high enough, so let's see that money work for us when we really need it!
Lake Linganore should sit down and review its snow removal policy, and do it with snow removal contractors because the current one just isn't up to par.
Lastly when people start e-mailing about the problems, don't send a nasty one back to residents because there is no one to blame but yourself!
