Fire in Ice returns to heat up a frosty First Saturday
Spark a little romance or just spend time with the ones you love during February's First Saturday, Fire in Ice, from 5-9 p.m. Saturday downtown.
Each ice sculpture on display throughout downtown will reflect the spirit of the sponsoring merchants and offer a different interpretation of sculpting ice into a hot design. Downtown guests will find chilly animals, glittering figures, heart-warming creations and more made entirely out of ice.
An interactive ice playground will be located on the patio of La Paz Mexican Restaurant, 52 S. Market St., providing a little bit of frigid fun. Visitors can test their aim at the Chilly Clown Toss, challenge friends to a frosty game at the ice hockey table, and have a free photo taken by Turner Photography on an icy Teddy Bear Throne fit for ice queens and kings. The playground is free of charge but all participants entering must sign a waiver.
After playing in the wintry mix, guests can warm up at one of four marshmallow roasting stations provided by Old Towne Historic Landscape. Locations include 30 N. Market Street, 301 N. Market Street, 33 E. Patrick Street and Everedy Square Plaza located at the intersection of East and Church Streets.
A live ice carving demonstration will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on the patio of Brewer's Alley, 124 N. Market St. Then warm up with free hot cocoa inside the lobby of BB&T Bank, 110 E. Patrick St. and in front of Flights of Fancy, 20 N. East St. At Everedy Square & Shab Row, visitors can enjoy a light show by the Design Diva and play a game of chilly checkers on a board made out of ice while waiting for the trolley to the next First Saturday destination.
Ice sculptures will be on view throughout Downtown Frederick along Market, Patrick, Carroll, Church Streets, Everedy Square and Shab Row. For a complete list of locations, visit www.downtownfrederick.org. For more information, call 301-698-8188.
