A boost for Friends of the Library
Your Jan. 13 article "Library materials would take big hit under Leggett plan" mentions grants from Friends of the Library offset some program reductions. Sales from Friends' three bookstores could ease the fiscal crisis if only their existence wasn't a CIA-caliber secret.
I discovered them after seeing a sign "Book Sale" on Wheaton Library's lawns. The bookstores sell donated and library stock books, CDs, videos and records. Some bargains I've purchased: reference catalogs for a hobby cost $100 new, but just $6 for a used set at the bookstore; a donated set of the complete Sherlock Holmes short stories for $5 they'd run $50 or $25 in most used bookstores; six Three Stooges video collections for 50 cents each.
Friends of the Library's Web site is www.folmc.org. The three bookstores are at 11701 Georgia Ave., Wheaton, in the Randolph Hills Shopping Center; 4886 Boiling Brook Parkway, Rockville; and 604 Quince Orchard Road, Gaithersburg, in the Quince Orchard Plaza.
