Four-year-old Oxon Hill girl killed in Sunday beltway crash
State police investigating cause of single-car crash on I-95 near Ritchie Marlboro Road
A 4-year-old Oxon Hill girl was killed Sunday morning in a single-car crash on Interstate 95 that also injured her parents and younger brother.
Gabriell Audrey Adams of the 2200 block of Alice Avenue was pronounced dead at Prince George's Hospital Center at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, an hour after the car she was riding in slid off the road and hit a utility pole, which then fell on top of the car, according to Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack Commander Lt. Roland L. Butler.
Maryland State Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, Butler said. The car was traveling north on Interstate 95, near the exit to Ritchie Marlboro Road in Capitol Heights. According to a witness report to police, the 2004 Honda Accord abruptly swerved across several lanes before it went off the right side of the road.
An initial report from the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department indicated Adams was not breathing and did not have a pulse when responders arrived on the scene. Butler said she was found outside of the car.
Adams was traveling with her mother, Tara J. Robertson, 36, and 2-year-old brother, James T. Adams IV, both of the same Alice Avenue address, and her father, James T. Adams III, 26, of the 6900 block of Greenwood Drive in Glenn Dale. All three were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Butler said Monday they were released after being treated.
Neither parent could be reached Monday morning. According to Butler, investigators believe Robertson was driving and that both children were in child safety seats at the time.
Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack at 301-568-8101.
