Inaugural restaurant week will come to city in March
Eateries will offer fixed-price lunches and dinners
Restaurateurs from across the county gathered at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in downtown Frederick this week to announce the first Frederick Restaurant Week.
Representatives from several local restaurants were on hand, including Brewer's Alley, Acacia Fusion Bistro and Firestone's Culinary Tavern.
The promotion will be held March 8-14 and is a joint effort of Downtown Frederick Partnership and the Tourism Council of Frederick County. Participating restaurants will offer two- and three-course lunches for $15.10 and $20.10, respectively, and three-course dinners for $30.10, plus beverages, tax and tip. Participating restaurants will create a special menu for the week.
Other participants are Cacique, Café Nola, Isabella's Taverna and Tapas Bar, Magoo's Pub & Eatery, Volt and Mick's New American Bistro, plus New York J&P Pizza in Urbana.
The promotion has been considered for a long time, according to Kara Norman, executive director of Downtown Frederick Partnership.
"Frederick has really come into its own as a culinary destination," she said.
"People talk about coming to Frederick to dine," said John J. Fieseler, executive director of the county tourism council. "We want to make some more noise for dining opportunities in Frederick."
The promotion can serve as a "good regional draw to bring tourists to the county" and encourage local residents to try new places, Fieseler said.
"It is a great chance to test drive a new restaurant or have an affordable meal at your favorite place," Norman said.
