Friday boys' basketball: Miracle shot helps Queen Anne win in second OT
After slow start, Potomac gets balanced scoring to beat Crossland, 78-64
Senior point guard Edmond Wright launched a running 3-pointer as time expired in the second overtime, praying it would go in.
Prayer answered.
Wright's shot was the difference for Queen Anne as it knocked off previously undefeated Washington International, 63-60.
The shot capped a game of dramatic lead changes and ties. The Lions led late in the fourth quarter, but International came back from a six-point deficit and Doug Spetalnick tied the game with 9 seconds remaining.
In the first overtime, Larry Haley helped Queen Anne come back by getting an offensive putback with 2 seconds left to tie the game.
With 6 seconds to go, International's David Mohlo tied the game at 60 with a 3-pointer. Wright got his hands on the ball and threw one up and in, giving the Lions a rewarding win over a conference foe.
"It's a great win for us [that] I think we really deserved," Queen Anne coach Dave Montgomery said. "It was nice because we had lost to them earlier in the year, and I think we believed if we all put in a complete effort, we could win it."
The last remaining undefeated team in the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference is Jewish Day, which plays Queen Anne on Monday.
