Three men arrested for dog fighting
Upper Marlboro, Capitol Heights residents charged with animal cruelty
Three Prince George's County men were arrested for dog fighting Saturday in Lothian, according to Anne Arundel County police.
Officers responded to the 5100 block of Sands Road in Lothian around 12:50 p.m. for a report of disorderly conduct, where officers found a group of men allegedly watching and conducting a dogfight in a nearby wooded area, according to a police report.
The men ran away as police officers approached, according to police. Officers arrested four men at the scene: Donnell Antonio Cooper, 23, of the 6800 block of Walker Mill Road in Capitol Heights; Nathaniel Lockley, 53, of the 8600 block of Monmouth Drive in Upper Marlboro; Kelvin Nathaniel Greathouse Jr., 23, of the 12400 block of Circa Court in Upper Marlboro; and Pervis Erashano Sharps Sr., 34, of the 1200 block of Whittington Drive in Lothian.
The two dogs involved both are 2-year-old pit bull terriers were turned over to Anne Arundel County Animal Control.
Lt. Glenn Shanahan of Anne Arundel County Animal Control said the dogs are being treated for bite wounds to the face and other injuries. He said that one of the dogs was also emaciated.
Besides being considered evidence in the case, Shanahan said the dogs' futures are unclear.
"Both dogs are aggressive, and they're not adoptable," he said. "We don't know their histories, other than that they been abused and that they're fighters."
The four men arrested all have been charged with animal cruelty, dog fighting, mutilating animals, and with being dog fighting spectators in Anne Arundel District Court, according to court records.
Greathouse also has been charged with possession and training of dogs for dog fighting, and Cooper with counterfeiting.
None of the men arrested could be reached for comment Tuesday, and none had attorneys listed in court records.
A man who identified himself as a relative of Lockley's said that as of Wednesday morning Lockley was still being held in jail. He declined to give his name or speak about the charges.
According to court records, Sharps was released from jail Sunday, Cooper was released from jail Tuesday, and Greathouse was released from jail Wednesday.
