County launches Yes Montgomery Can! volunteer campaign
Effort to build grassroots army coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Montgomery County officials, along with the Jewish Community Relations Council, Impact Silver Spring, Montgomery County Community Foundation, the Manna Food Center and a number of other community nonprofit organizations are planning a volunteer weekend during the presidential inauguration and Martin Luther King Jr. Day aimed at assisting the county's neediest residents.
Along with inaugural events and traditional MLK commemorations, county residents this year are asked to participate in a variety of volunteer opportunities and charitable giving.

Seeking volunteers to knock on 50,000 doors throughout the county to spread the word about the campaign.
Training for Neighborhood Assistance Volunteers to work at a community Health and Human Services site in the 20877 ZIP code

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service volunteer projects
Nonperishable food donations will be collected at the community service projects. The donations benefit the Manna Food Center.

Volunteer fair, service projects
Making Valentine's Day cards for the Orphans Foundation, decorating bookmarks and cards for sick children, packing snow day baskets for countywide Meals on Wheels programs
