Police believe a man stole laptop computers from two downtown Silver Spring office buildings during November holidays.

Police said a man entered the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration offices at 1100 Wayne Ave. in Silver Spring about 6 p.m. Nov. 10 and stole two laptop computers from employees' desks. NOAA employees were off work Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and noticed the computers were missing the next day.
Police have released images from security cameras at NOAA that show a black male between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall with a medium build, who police have now developed as a suspect in the case, according to a new release from police.
Police believe the same man also stole five laptops from an office building at 8515 Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring, according to the release. Three computers were taken from unlocked private offices and two from cubicles between 3 p.m. Nov. 26 and 2 p.m. Nov. 30 while employees were off for the Thanksgiving holiday.
There was no sign of forced entry in either incident, the release said. In both cases, maintenance and custodial employees work at the offices while they are closed for holidays so the entrances to the offices were not locked and the buildings were not empty, said Lucille Baur, a police spokeswoman.
No other property was taken in either incident, Baur said.
Anyone who knows the identity or location of the suspect is asked to call the Third District Investigative Section at 301-565-5835.
