Kohl's expands, to hire 280 at two new stores
Department store chain plans locations in Annapolis, Middle River
Kohl's Corp., one of the nation's largest department store chains, plans to open new stores this March in Annapolis and Middle River, hiring a total of 280 workers, company executives said Monday.
The company will sponsor a job fair Sunday through Jan. 14 at the Doubletree Hotel, 210 Holiday Court, Annapolis, spokeswoman Elizabeth DeLuca said in an e-mail. About 150 openings there will be in customer service, stocking, truck unloading and cash register operations at that store at Somerville Road and Solomons Island Road.
Kohl's is also interviewing applicants for the Middle River store through Jan. 15 at the Hilton Garden Inn White Marsh, 5015 Campbell Blvd. Some 130 positions will be available at that store near Martin Boulevard and Middle River Road.
The stores are two new ones in the state and are not replacing others nearby, DeLuca said. Once those open, Kohl's will have 19 stores in Maryland, she said.
Kohl's, of Menomonee Falls, Wis., operated 1,059 stores nationwide as of November, up 55 in the past year. Same-store sales rose by 3.3 percent in November from the same month in 2008. Net income in the 2009 third quarter increased by 21 percent to $193 million from a year ago. Sales rose by 6.5 percent to $4.1 billion.
