'Tis the season to be busy. And if you are an Maryland Ensemble Theatre company member, that sentiment is especially true.
MET celebrates the season with the production of four holiday plays. MET, in conjunction with its children's division, The Fun Company, will stage an original adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" weekends from Nov. 28 Dec. 27. The innovative production, featuring Tad Janes as Ebenezer Scrooge, also incorporates the use of puppets, and dazzling special effects. Performances are scheduled Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
Fans of David Sedaris won't want to miss "The Santaland Diaries," staged weekends Dec. 5-27. Sedaris, who is the author of several national best selling books made his comic debut recounting the strange-but-true experiences of his job as a Santaland elf at Macy's. Kevin Corbett portrays Sedaris in the one-man show. Performances are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays at 9 p.m.
"The Eight: Reindeer Monologues," presented weekends from Nov. 28 through Dec. 27, offers a "wickedly fun" black comedy. Scandal erupts at the North Pole when one of the eight reindeer accuses Santa of harassment. As the media descends, the other members of the sleigh team offer up their perspectives of the situation. The Met-X production contains adult content. The play will be staged Fridays and Saturdays at 10:30 p.m.
Legendary Broadway composers, Jules Styne and Bob Merrill, provide the musical score for "The Dangerous Christmas of Red Riding Hood," presented Dec. 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. The musical, produced by The Fun Company, features a feisty Little Red Riding Hood, a big bad wolf who believes he is misunderstood, and a harmonizing wolf pack.
