Nichole Savage is artistic director and choreographer for Savage Dance Company in Eldersburg.

Nicole Savage, owner of Savage Dance Company and Eldersburg's newest tenant, is bringing Hip-Hop dance to Carroll County for the first time.

"I have been dancing since I was three," Savage said. "It is time to follow my heart."

Savage has been studying dance for 23 years and instructing for the past ten years. She also has been teaching tap and hip-hop classes at the Carroll County Dance Center in Sykesville, tap classes for the Bfunk Dance Company of Ellicott City and jazz classes to the SRCS Dance Team of Eldersburg and Sykesville.

"It is sad to leave the classroom, but it's time," Savage said.

For 16 years Savage received training from the Debora A. Lewis Dance Studio and the Broadway Dance Center in New York. Savage's choreographic training has come from Joe Tremaine, Frank Hatchett and even Jose DeLaCruz, who choreographed NSync and Britney Spears. Savage has received over 70 national dance titles and hopes to help children through the competition process.

"I hope to take a group of students to New York," Savage said. "It would be a great experience for them."

The Savage Dance Company will hold open house on June 2 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. They will give ten-minute performances every hour.

The studio is located in front of Century High School in the Abar Shopping Center. The studio will offer students of all ages and stages of abilities jazz, hip-hop/funk, lyrical, tap, ballet, creative movement, vocal lessons, aerobics and basic tumbling. From the beginning student to the more-experienced dancer there will be 30 classes a week to choose from.

"We aim to please students of all ages whether they have a serious dedication to dance or just want to try it for the first time," Savage said.

Savage offers a well-rounded performing arts program with the option of hip-hop or voice training. A student can take new wave techno classes without the formal requirement of taking ballet and technical jazz. "Mommy and Me" classes will be held for children from the age of 18 months. It will be the first such class held in Carroll County.

The staff of Savage Dance Company shares over 150 competition titles. Each of the instructors have received master classes at the Broadway Dance Center in New York. Prices range from $10 an hour per class to $30 for a private lesson. Family packages are available. The cost of outfitting a child for class ranges from $25 to $75, Savage said. The studio is located at 20 Liberty Road. at the intersection of Klee Mill Road and Liberty Road. For registration please phone 410-552-0330.
