The Poolesville Teen Center's Board of Directors recently completed a grant application that will be sent to the county before the Aug. 30 deadline, said Jerry Klobukowski, a town commissioner who is also a teen center board member.

The board members estimate that close to $51,000 will be needed to keep the center running next year. They have requested $40,000 from the county and $10,000 from the town.

"We don't know how much money we will get, but we put together an honest appraisal of funds we need based on information from previous years," Klobukowski said.

Any additional money the center needs will come from annual fees, which will be approximately $20-25 per person, Klobukowski said. He said families with more than one child as well as those needing financial assistance will be able to receive discounts on center memberships.

An additional financial burden was placed on the teen center earlier this summer when the center was forced to vacate its Fisher Avenue building. Because the center no longer has a home, space must now be rented to hold activities.

"I think that the people on the board are committed, energetic people and see the importance of a teen center," Klobukowski said. "People might say that in the past the teen center wasn't good. Right now we're focusing on improving the center and looking toward the future."
