The deadline for the Poolesville Teen Center and other similar county centers to submit grant applications has been extended, according to Mark Winans, director of teen programs with the Montgomery County Department of Recreation.

"We had a request from someone from the county to make an extension," Winans said. He said the deadline, which was Friday, will be extended through the end of August.

The extension is good news for the Poolesville Teen Center, which does not have a complete board of directors and has not submitted a budget to the county. If the deadline were not extended, the Poolesville center could have lost county funding.

Prospective board members were scheduled to meet Tuesday night to discuss the formation of a board and the submission of a budget.

"I have spoken to five different parents that see the definite need for a teen center in Poolesville and have children who are willing to participate as well," said Jerry Klobukowski, a town commissioner who sits on the current teen center board.
