A Montgomery County high school teacher was charged Thursday with four counts of child abuse for incidents that involved a 17-year-old student, according to Montgomery County Police.

Brian Thomas Clancy, 38, of Bowie, who is a drama teacher at James. H. Blake High School in Silver Spring turned himself in at the Rockville District Police station after learning of the charges against him, according to county police.

An investigation began at 9:35 p.m. Nov. 6 when an officer saw a car parked at Foreman Park in Gaithersburg. The driver who was identified as Clancy was with a female student from Blake. Three other incidents -- in a Gaithersburg home Oct. 13, in Laytonsville Park Nov. 3 and in the parking lot of Rio Shopping Center Nov. 13 -- involved Clancy inappropriately touching the student, police said.

Clancy has been released on personal bond. None of the incidents took place at the school or during school hours, the release said.

Clancy is on paid administrative leave. He could face up to 60 years in prison if found guilty of the charges.
