A former Olney man who pleaded guilty to rape 13 years ago has been charged by Manassas Park, Va., police with indecent exposure.

Michael Eugene Donati, 43, was arrested May 24 after police found him based on information provided by a Manassas Park woman.

Although identified as an Olney resident in several news reports, Donati has not lived in Olney for over 15 years, according to his father Gene Donati.

The elder Donati, a longtime Olney resident and renowned band leader, said he has been estranged from his son for many years but believes he resides in Manassas.

Michael Donati allegedly pulled up to the woman in his purple Corvette in a residential area and asked her for directions, according to Detective Anthony Defelice of Manassas Park Police.

Defelice, one of the investigating officers, said Donati was naked from the waist down and was masturbating. The woman tried to get the man's license plate number, but the plates were obscured by plastic bags, which also helped police recognize the vehicle, Defelice said.

He added that the woman later identified Donati.

Defelice said that Donati is also being investigated in connection with similar incidents in Prince William and Fairfax counties in Virginia.

In 1985, Donati was charged with abduction, attempted rape and rape in Fairfax, Va., according to a Fairfax County Circuit Court clerk. The abduction and attempted rape charges were dropped, and Donati pleaded guilty to the rape charge, according to the clerk. The clerk would not confirm Donati's sentence.

Donati is being held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center on $20,000 bond.
